What if you were fully enjoying, entirely present to, and engaged in your work? What if you were truly thriving, working with compassion and mindfulness? What if you were working with others who were having the same experience? This is all possible through being mindful of and embracing Spirit at work.
Being mindful of Spirit at work has several benefits to yourself and others:
- Authenticity – Bringing your whole self to work allows you to follow your vision, your purpose, without hesitancy. When you are on your Right Road and responding to life’s challenges, you will feel centered and courageous. In other words, living your purpose is self-empowering.
- Connecting with Others – When you are living from your true essence, you are able to have deeper connections with yourself and others. When you’re comfortable sharing your true self with co-workers then colleagues and clients are more likely to open up and do the same with you. You build trusting relationships together.
- Leadership – Regardless of titled positions, people are drawn to those who exude self-confidence, passion, and trustworthiness. When you bring your whole self to your work, you can exhibit confidence that will inspire others to follow your lead. Being your true self and leading from your Spiritual Self inspires loyalty and shared engagement. Being open about your values and staying true to them will allow you to make sound decisions quickly.
Commit to Your Right Road
When you are living your life’s purpose, firmly committed to your Right Road, then all sorts of things occur to help you that might never otherwise occur. Remember, “Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.” – von Goethe
Recent research reveals that Spirit at work is a megatrend. Organizations of all kinds and sizes are becoming more conscious, socially responsible, and values-driven. Research studies are finding these positive changes as a result:
- Greater work satisfaction by approaching one’s work as a personal mission, rather than just a job to perform
- Experiencing a sense of connectedness to one another and to the workplace as a community
- Hopefulness and a sense of purpose and meaning at work
- Reduced stress
- Personal well-being
- Increased job performance
- Increased connection and team productivity
- Greater commitment to one’s team and to the organization that supports them
- A climate of trust
What Can You Do to Create Spirit at Work?
Begin by committing to your own authentic, individual way of being including:
- Taking ownership of and responsibility for your thoughts, beliefs, words, and actions
- Developing empathy and increasing your capacity to embrace and respond to resistance and change
- Placing understanding over blame
- Choosing forgiveness and compassion over vindictiveness
- Cultivating your own individual purpose: a) What is your personal calling? b) How is it represented and valued in your workplace? c) How well are you aligned with your work?
Your Life Is Your Responsibility
To be your authentic self at work and manifest your vision, you first must really know yourself and also identify what patterns get in your way of your authenticity. The journey toward authenticity starts with awareness.
